HTML Tutorial



HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) is used to create web pages. Here, Hyper Text means "Text within Text" (for example text having a link) and Markup Language means a programming language which allow to make text more interactive and dynamic. This tutorial will help you to learn and understand the basic and advanced concepts of HTML.

An HTML document is made of many HTML tags and each HTML tag contains different content.

HTML Example


	< !DOCTYPE html >
	< html >
	< head >
	< title >Title of the page< /title >
	< /head >
	< body >
	< h1 > Very First Heading < /h1 >
	< p > Defining Paragraph < /p >
	< /body >
	< /html >


In the above example we have used some HTML tags. Below is the explaination:
  • < !DOCTYPE > - defines the document type.
  • Text between < html > and < /html > describes an HTML document
  • Text between < head > and < /head > defines document information
  • Text between < title > and < /title > define the title of document
  • Text between < body > and < /body > describes the visible page content
  • Text between < h1 > and < /h1 > defines a heading
  • Text between < p > and < /p > defines a paragraph

HTML Tags


HTML tags are predefined keywords surrounded by angle brackets. Below is the syntax

< tagname > content < /tagname >

HTML tags normally come in pairs like < p > (start tag) and < /p > (end tag).

The < !DOCTYPE > Declaration


It defines the type of document which helps browser to display a web page correctly.

The doctype declaration is not case sensitive. < !DOCTYPE html > is same as < !DOCTYPE HTML > and < !doctype html >.
